ELECTRICAL SAFETY OUTSIDE

Electricity travels through power lines and terminal stations throughout your community. These types of electricity equipment carry thousands of volts of electricity. If you go near it, you can be seriously injured or killed. It's very important to be safe around electricity.

Here are a few tips to help you stay safe around electricity outside:

  • Do no climb utility poles or trees close to power lines.
  • Keep kites away from power lines, and never fly metallic balloons outside — you never know when a thunder and lightning storm could begin.
  • If you see a fallen power line, STAY AWAY! You should tell a parent or guardian what you've seen and get them to contact Hydro.
  • If you see anything marked, "DANGER," HIGH VOLTAGE," or "KEEP OUT," STAY AWAY.
  • In the winter, stay away from high snow banks near power lines.
